[SOLVED] How to auto login on startup in ChaletOS

Post by hughparker1 on Fri Jul 08, 2016 3:27 am

I have tried to find out how to auto login on startup but can't find any way to do it in ChaletOS

I did try Settings > System > Users and Groups > Password: changed to... "Not asked on login"

... but still need to click on username to open desktop

I am the only user on the system and would like to boot directly to deskotp without having to select my username.

I looked at http://chaletos.4rumer.com/t158-switch-to-auto-login

... but "Display chooser on login" was already disabled so I can't use this solution.

.. also tried sudo mousepad /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf but no file exists

does anyone know how to do this?

yes, no file exists but you must create it. Run these commands:

Code:
sudo mkdir /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d
sudo touch /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-myconfig.conf
sudo mousepad /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-myconfig.conf

then put this in:
Code:
[SeatDefaults]
autologin-user=USERNAME

The only good thing about Windows is that it never gives you any terminal illnesses.
Needless to say, Terminal illnesses are the only problem with Linux.

James, once again you are a star. I did as you suggested and now I have auto login.  I posted this only a few minutes ago and went downstairs to make a cup of tea and you had the answer within a few minutes.

Thanks very much for your quick reply, much appreciated.
