[ solved ] Blanking Screen

Post by davec51 on Sat May 21, 2016 10:26 am

I love the latest ChaletOS, but I can't figure out how to get the screen to go blank after, say, ten minutes of disuse. I suspect it's a simple tweak, but I can't find the method. Please help.

under system settings, check out "power options".

Power Options Doesn't Help

Post by davec51 on Sun May 22, 2016 1:16 am

I have already tried every setting I can imagine under the Power tab, but the screen won't blank. It's a Dell Optiplex GX520 with an Intel video card.

have you tried the "display" tab? it's right there!

note: you must have BBCODE enabled to view photo.

Display Tab

Post by davec51 on Sun May 22, 2016 4:48 am

I have tried various settings on the Display tab. I notice in your example you have the screen blanking set to 'never.' I have it set for ten minutes. 'Never' seems counter-intuitive for the result I want, which is blanking. I will, however, set the slider to 'never' and see what happens.

noooo! "never" means the screen will never blank. That's how I set it and how I want it set, i could have temporarily changed it for the screenshot, sorry I didn't.

If you set your mouse down does it sometimes seem to wiggle without you doing anything? just wiggling the mouse will reset that 10 minute time period. Maybe temporarily try it for 1 minute while testing. Another interesting idea would be to try it without the mouse plugged in. When optical mice get bad after a while, they are not stable even when the mouse is stable. Or maybe the desk wiggles a lot. Who knows!

Hope you can unearth the problem! Wink Very Happy

Disconnecting Doesn't Work

Post by davec51 on Sun May 22, 2016 5:57 am

I appreciate the time and effort you're spending on this small problem.
I tried disconnecting both mouse and keyboard for a test, with the slider set at one minute, with no resulting blanking. I have concluded that something is awry in the program itself, which I'm not expert enough to examine. I will go back to 14.02, which is still installed on my machine, and wait until a new version of ChaletOS come out, and try that one.
Thanks again.

Blanking Problem Solved

Post by davec51 on Wed Jun 01, 2016 9:19 pm

I finally downloaded 16.04 again and installed it. Now the screen blanks after the designated time. As I suspected, there was something wrong with my download a few weeks ago. Thanks again for the help.
